Pacemakers are small devices that are implanted in the chest to help regulate the heartbeat. They use electrical signals to stimulate the heart muscle and help it beat at a normal rate. Pacemakers are used to treat a variety of heart conditions, including bradycardia (a slow heart rate) and tachycardia (a fast heart rate). They are typically used in people who have heart rhythm problems that cannot be controlled with medication or other treatments.
